The chairman and group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Mittal, surprised everyone when he declared that he wants smartphone prices to drop to Rs 2,500. He spoke at the World Mobile Congress this week that has led to the speculation that he may have laid out a blueprint of the future.
According to his statement, the smartphones prices may drop to Rs 2,500 which is nearly half the current price of the cheapest Android-powered phones. He stated that if any product defies pricing logic, it is mobiles.
He argued that whether the smartphone makers can pack in an efficient operating system, apps and email at a much lower cost and still turn it in a profit.
The chief marketing officer at Lava, Sunil Rana, believes that getting the chipset cost down will directly lead to the fall in the prices of smartphones. He stated that the firms can seek help from the processor manufacturers like Qualcomm and MediaTek.
If this is to happen, the smartphones industry can witness a major boost globally
