Nokia Lumia 800 mobile phone review

Starts well even on. Lumia as the Nokia 800 is supplied to the test on Friday, I'm not going to be asked twice: Switch to unpack ... not. The screen is full of promise, but the touchscreen is not responding to anything. All attempts to restart the device to fail. Colleagues from other publications confirm similar problems. A new device has since Nokia delivered the following day.

With which there are no problems, only wonder. First, about the design. The housing is milled from a block of polycarbonate, show off the fins. One could also say plastic. Sounds cheap, but it is not. Actually sees the Lumia of 800 very noble and feels like that. Too bad that both testers were black. The color variations are likely to provide more attention.

For the black body emphasizes equally the deep black of the screen, which is a looker. Its resolution is just 800 x 480 pixels sensational, this is the cover glass swinging toward the edge, seems to blend with the rest of the housing. In addition, it is very clear, demonstrates a deep black and the colors more vivid. Even from the steep side of view is still good and faithful color to see what is displayed on the screen.

And that's displayed is what distinguishes the Lumia 800 (the design is known from N9): Windows Mobile 7.5, code-named Mango. The Lumia is the first high-end smartphone, the Nokia ships with the Microsoft operating system. The era of the Symbian smartphone is finally concluded, Nokia has opted for the expensive phones on Microsoft software.

This is the Finnish company to some extent his identity. You could see a Nokia phone so far without company logo on its Symbian-optics, the user interface of the Lumia 800 is indistinguishable from that of any Windows-mobile phones. Nokia tries to compensate by Mango enhances Microsoft's own offerings with.
The most important thing would be Nokia's navigation app. A big difference from most other navigation apps: It is global maps are available free of charge. In the test, the guide worked great. Indeed, can we go to the cinema, it is enough to enter his name, and you get the target appears. Amazingly good is the quality of the GPS module. Even on the center console of my car lying, without direct line of sight to GPS satellites, it showed the position correctly.

Unlike the navigation software, the Nokia Music Offer not impress music. The music player itself is based on software from Microsoft's Zune players, which is only good times. The integrated access to Nokia's MP3 store is not managed. Individual titles will be shown quite clearly. But if you can show an album track by track, track lines are cut by more than about three words. Stupid, if you are interested in a plate with several remixes of the same songs that are referenced. The announcement by Lumia, offering free music radio mix can be exploited yet, lack the necessary licenses Nokia.

As for the supply of apps, keeps the Lumia not with the Android and iOS competition. Although the aforementioned Microsoft Marketplace app store for Windows Mobile caught up, has a range of tens of thousands of apps, but quantity alone does not make a good app store.
