Two great news for you
1.Aakash 2 To Go Expensive With Better Features
There was a buzz everywhere that the low cost computing device popularly known as Aakash tablet, the cheapest tablet, is all set to disappoint millions of consumers, who are eagerly waiting to purchase it. However, the good news is that Aakash tablet would be made available with enhanced features and more effective in terms of its functionality.
As per the news report, the water resistant as well as shock resistant Aakash tablet with processor which is four times faster than the older version along with excellent battery life will be priced at USD 100, which is around Rs 4500/-. It is two times higher than the original cost.
Apparently, the public and private sector technology firms had promised the government to supply about a million of Aakash 2 tablets at the older cost, has now refused to do so. The Canadian company Datawind had received the order for supplying one lakh Aakash tablets at USD 50 to the government. The debate on hiking the price started, when the Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan clearly specified few test criteria for Aakash tablet. The Indian Telephone Industries and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited have agreed to meet the requirement of government of a million Aakash tablet but, not at the cost that was decided earlier.
The specifications as per Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan is that the computing device should be able to function at 20 degrees and up to 50 degrees Celsius, withstanding steep, sudden fall and water resistance. It has also specified a 1.2 GHz microprocessor against 366 MHz for Aakash tablet and 700 RAM megabytes, which is double the original one. The battery as per specifications should be able to run up to 8 hours. Thus, due to these specifications and enhanced features, the price of Aakash 2 tablet has increased. After increasing the price of this low budgeted device, it is no longer the cheapest tablet.

2.Aakash May Soon Be Free For Students
The $60 Aakash tablet, which had become the talk of the town in India, is indeed the most important topic of discussion amongst the people of India today. Now, students may be further benefited as the world’s cheapest computing tablet, Aakash, which was distributed exclusively for students across the nation at a discounted price may be available for free very soon.
The HRD minister Kapil Sibal reportedly stated the plan of government on supplying subsidy up to 50 percent to the tablet and the rest of the amount to be covered by the universities in which the students are enrolled. The institutions would take a call on the cost that they would like to recover. The minister also revealed about the manufacturing plans, which would be made indigenous mainly, the components that are required for making Aakash tablets. The minister also said that there was a meeting organized with Bharat Electronics.
The government is all set to make plans in order to manufacture every component of Aakash tablet indigenously or else, it is not feasible to supply it as massively as planned as per the statement made by the HRD minister. The popularity of the Aakash tablet has already risen up to extreme heights it will increase further if at all the tablets become free for students. The HRD minister, in addition to moving the manufacturing process domestically, also wants to provide Aakash tablet to students be for free. This decision of manufacturing the components indigenously may act as a tool to save more money and as a result, the computing device can be offered at a lesser price.
