Xiaomi Mi 5 and Redmi Note 2 Purportedly Pictured in Leaked Images

Adding to the previous leaks dealing with Xiaomi Mi 5 and Redmi Note 2, two new images have surfaced on Chinese social networking site Weibo. These images shows the handsets' back panels, offering more details about the two smartphones.
The first image (via Gizmochina) featuring the rumoured Xiaomi Mi 5 shows the smartphone's dual-camera setup at the back along with dual-LED flash. The rear panel of the rumoured smartphone show no sign of the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor, which was rumoured earlier this week . The back panel seems to have been made out of glass.
Some of the other specifications being tipped for the rumoured Xiaomi Mi 5 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 5.2-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) resolution display, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 64GB of inbuilt storage, and 3000mAh battery.
The second image (via GforGames), said to be showing us a glimpse of Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, features a smartphone with fingerprint sensor placed below the rear camera and the LED flash. Seen in its silver colour variant, the design of the handset goes in line with the last month's leaked image , which also showed the rear panel of the unannounced Redmi Note 2.
Unfortunately, the specifications of the handset in question was not mentioned in the leak. The smartphone however, allegedly passed China's Quality Certification Centre recently, tipping some innards. As per the certification listing, the Redmi Note 2 is supposed to include a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display; a 13-megapixel rear camera; a 5-megapixel front camera, and a battery larger than 3000mAh. 4G LTE connectivity is also tipped. Two separate report claims the handset to feature either Mediatek's Helio X10 (MT6795) chipset or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 (MSM8919) processor.

Amazon said to be developing its own smartphone

Amazon is said to be in the midst of developing its own smartphone, which will compete against the iPhone and the Android smartphones, says Bloomberg. The world's largest online retailer is said to have partnered with Foxconn to manufacture the handset for it.

There are no other details available at the moment but if Amazon plans to compete with iPhone their phone has to be high-end, unlike the Kindle Fire, which was a budget offering. We don't know what software it would be running but it's fair to assume it would be a heavily customized version of Android such as the one on the Kindle Fire.

Considering Amazon has its own application store, along with books, music, movies and loads of other stuff, it really doesn't matter if it doesn't allow access to the Google Play Store (assuming you're in the US).

Amazon may not have the same brand value when it comes to smartphone, seeing as it doesn't have any so far, but it does run the world's most popular online store, where it can advertise the phone on every page. This, coupled with the content from its store and possibly an attractive price tag means the Amazon smartphone could be a success, just like the Kindle Fire.

Google unveils Nexus 7 tab with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

       Google made its long-awaited debut into the tablet wars on Wednesday, unveiling the Nexus 7 to compete with Apple’s dominant iPad as well as the recently announced Microsoft Surface.

The Nexus 7, developed in conjunction with Asus, features a 7-inch (17.8-centimetre) screen, making it smaller but more portable and lighter than its main competitors, which both feature screens of about 10 inches (25 centimetres). That places it in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet, which is by far the most successful running on Google’s Android operating system.

         The Nexus 7 goes on sale for $199 effective immediately on Google’s online store Google Play, with delivery starting in the U.S., Britain, Canada and Australia in mid-July, Google said. That makes it far more affordable than Apple’s cheapest iPad, the older model iPad 2, which sells for $399.

          The Nexus 7 weighs just 340 grams, features an Nvidia Tegra quad core processor and a battery allowing for up to nine hours of video play on its 1280x800 pixel screen, or 300 hours of standby(there is no 3G / 4G option).There's also a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera and all the sensors you'd expect from a modern slate, including NFC.It ships with Google’s popular Chrome browser as the default programme for surfing the web. It also features Google Now, a refinement of Google’s search service that provides personal information gleaned from your Google history, rather than mere internet links.

Android upgraded

Google unveiled the device at its developers conference in San Francisco, where the company gave details of its latest version of Android, nicknamed Jelly Bean, which improves major components such as touch, search, notifications and Google Maps.

Also revealed at the conference was the Google Q, a home entertainment hub that streams movies, music and other content, designed to compete with Apple TV and other entertainment hubs.

Google said some 1 million Android devices are newly activated around the world every day, with 400 million Android devices now in use.

In another mark of the rocketing popularity of Google’s mobile operating system, Google said that its online store now boasts more than 600,000 apps, with 1.5 billion apps downloaded by users every day.

Google glasses

Google co-founder Sergey Brin announced that the company’s network-enabled computerized eyeglasses would be made available for pre-order to the 5,000 developers attending Google’s I/O developer conference in San Francisco. The price: 1,500 dollars.

Mr. Brin showcased the glasses in one of the most unusual tech demos ever held. It involved teams of skydivers, cyclists and rapellers combining to bring Brin a set of the high tech specs, while using the devices to beam live video of the event over Google Hangouts, the company’s social networking video conferencing tool. 

             The glasses, which are actually wearable mini-computers in the shape of eyeglasses, use a tiny projector fixed just above the user’s eye-level to beam information directly into the user’s field of vision. The futuristic device can be controlled via voice commands or tiny buttons embedded in the frame.

iOS 6 Features Compatibility List For Your Supported iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Apple unveiled iOS 6 at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 11 in the United States. iPhone and iPad owners were very exited about the new features soon to be available for their devices. These include: Turn-by-turn directions in Maps, FaceTime video calls over 3G, ability to save webpages for offline reading and more

However, this may not happen at all. For older models iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch not all of the newly release features will be available for download when iOS 6 is released in the fall.

Here is the breakdown, as posted in the footnotes of the iOS explainer site on Apple.com:

• Siri will no longer be exclusive to the iPhone 4S; it will also make the leap to the iPad 3. This means that the Siri functionality in the new Maps — the ability to ask for directions, or attractions along your route — will only be available on those two devices.
• The iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 will not receive turn-by-turn directions or the “Flyover” 3D mapping feature (per MacWorld).
• The “Shared Photo Stream” feature, which allows iDevice users to share photos with other iDevice users and comment on each other’s pictures, will only be available for the iPhone 4 or later, the iPad 2 or later, and Mac computers with OS X Mountain Lion.
• FaceTime over 3G will require an iPhone 4S or iPad 3 with cellular data capability. No 3G FaceTime for anything older than those two gadget.
• VIP list — which allows users to mark certain email addresses as important, so that new emails from those accounts pop up like text messages — is only available on the iPhone 4 or later and the iPad 2 or later. Ditto for VIP and Flagged mailboxes, separate inboxes for more important emails in the Mail app.
• Offline Reading List — an Instapaper-like feature that allows for saving of webpage content for reading when you don’t have an Internet connection — will only be available on the iPhone 4 or later and the iPad 2 or later.
• In general, iOS 6 will be available only for the iPhone 3GS and later, the iPad 2 and later, and the fourth-generation iPod Touch.

Now, some of these non-updates come with explanations. Apple seems to think that its top-of-the-line A5 processor, for example, is necessary to sufficiently power video chats over 3G. Why Siri cannot run on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4, however, remains a mystery to some critics, and Apple has stayed typically mum. The inability of the iPhone 3GS and first-generation iPad to run seemingly simple utilities like the Offline Reading List and VIP mailboxes may breed more suspicion, doubt, and mystery surrounding Apple’s motives.

Whatever those motives are, the key takeaway is that Apple has again chosen to keep some of its most impressive features, announced with much fanfare and hype at a slickly-produced event, exclusive to its newest hardware. How an Android app could transmit your personal data without any permissions

The CoolIris Android gallery, the stock gallery app used in many devices running Android 2.1 - 2.3, has been found to store unencrypted copies of complete addresses that could theoretically be accessed and transmitted by a malicious app with no system permissions. The issue came to light when we started investigating a security issue in Android found by Paul Brodeur from Leviathan Security Group. Brodeur created an app named No Permissions which highlights flaws in Android's permission system that would allow an app to access your data.
Android keeps apps in a "sandbox," and makes them ask for permission to access things like the internet, phone calls, location, or contacts. If you don't grant an app access to something, you can rest safe knowing that it will never access it. Brodeur uncovered a long list of things that, without permissions, a malicious app could access.
The first issue highlighted by the report is file security. No Permissions is able to scan your device's storage (either a physical SD card or an "internal SD Card" or eMMC) and return a list of any non-hidden files, the contents of which could then be scanned for potentially sensitive information. It was also possible to return a list of installed applications, which could aid a malicious app in knowing where to look for data. Although the app is only a proof-of-concept, the techniques mentioned in the report are capable of accessing this data.

Sony's Android Smart Watch: Touch screen on your wrist

Sony gets points for originality SmartWatch not (like has often been seen), but does quite well the thing is basically a touch screen with Bluetooth, already made.

Priced at $150, the Bluetooth-enabled SmartWatch retrieves text messages, emails, and Facebook and Twitter updates from most Android (2.1 and above) smartphones, Sony says.
The primary benefit of the SmartWatch is being able to access smartphone information without having to remove the phone from a pocket or bag.
Measuring 0.3 inches thick and featuring a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen, the square-shaped SmartWatch resembles Apple's 6^th-generation iPad Nano, which can also function as a watch--albeit one that's large and a bit clumsy to operate, at least in my experience.
The SmartWatch vibrates and posts screen alerts to notify you of new events. It comes with a black rubber wristband; additional wristbands are available in five colors at $20 each. The watch also has a rear-mounted clip for attaching the device to a belt or clothing.

Sony says the SmartWatch is compatible with Android apps for music, social updates, and workouts that are compatible with the device's 1.3-inch touchscreen, such as TicTacToe, and Sony's own music player. The company hopes developers will write more SmartWatch-specific apps.

7inch ATabin android based tablet launching in 2nd week of March @Rs 5,000 in India

Students in India will have more options to choose from as far as low-cost tablets go with a global education company launching an android tablet costing Rs 5,000. International education company AcrossWorld along with Delhi-based Go-Tech would launch a tablet, called ATabin, in the second week of March.

      The seven-inch android touchscreen tablet will have a three-year free access to education technology platform 'EducationBridge' which allows academic institutions, teachers and students to use a variety of content and educational resources through a software called open source.
The tablet, however, is not that cheap as Aakash, which the government had launched in 2011. Aakash is the world's lowest priced tablet at $35 (about Rs 1,700).
Announcing the launch, president and chief executive of AcrossWorld, Stephan Thieringer said the tablet will make a variety of resources available to Indian students.
"With the availability of ATab, Indian schools will be able to discover and leverage world-class educational content at their fingertips. It is very timely and appropriate that India schools and colleges alike seriously explore advanced technology solutions that provide instant access to the world's best educational resources , especially now within an affordable budget," said Thieringer.
According to company officials, about a dozen schools and colleges from various Indian cities such as Delhi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Rourkela and Gaujarala have indicated keen interest in the tablet.

Android Smartphones for Rs 2500 in india declared by Sunil Mittal, chairman of Bharti Enterprises

That big guy at the bottom is the 41-megapixel sensor responsible for those awesome Nokia 808 PureView shots we saw at MWC on Monday. The two above it are 8- and 5-megapixel sensors respectively, and give you an idea of the real-estate cost of packing a superior snapper. At two and a half times the physical size of the N8's prized optics, we think the PureView system earns its title as the biggest thing in mobile imaging somewhat convincingly.
